The tragedy of the Indian Ocean tsunami has touched the hearts of the whole world. More than 250,000 people have tragically lost their lives and sickness and difficulties of supplying support means this number will most likely continue to rise.
The family of Kyokushin has also been tragically impacted with thousands of members and their families affected. Many members have lost their lives or the lives of family members and friends.
A tragedy such as this forces us to feel the connection between all mankind. We cannot ignore this tragedy and pretend we are not affected because the loss of even one soul is a loss to us all. Sometimes it takes a tragedy of this degree to wake us up and remind us the universality of us all. We are all part of the one, universal brotherhood of man.
We at the Kyokushin-kan would like to join the world in expressing our heartfelt sense of loss and support at this tragic time. We send our prayers and thoughts not just to the students and fans of Kyokushin Karate but to every soul in countless countries around the world who have been touched. Your loss is our loss. The world will never be the same again. Through this tragedy we pray that the mind-numbing loss of life is not wasted, but instead we are encouraged to feel our universal connection strengthened and renewed. Oyama Sosai preached the creed of Kyokushin Karate crossing all boundaries of race, country and creed. Our hearts reach out to all mankind.
